Now, Accidents On ORR Will Be Mapped. Cyberabad Commissionerate has come up with a plan to map the number of accidents.

• New software to help demarcate accident prone areas on ORR and highways

• Works like Google Maps and will be operational soon
“Thirty dead and five critically injured as a van ferrying a marriage party hits a DCM on Outer Ring Road”, “Speeding car overturns. Driver and co-passenger critically injured at ORR”- these are some of the reports which one gets to read almost every day.
The 150 km stretch of Outer Ring Road (ORR) has gained notoriety for being an accident hub and 2013 stands testimony to this. As many as 1,029 accidents took place and 1,091 lives were lost in the previous year. The state announced that national highways were competing with the ORR, in terms of accidents, and have claimed lives of 496 in 482 accidents. This brings us to the question of whether there’s any solution to these accidents? Isn’t there anyway for people to know what are the most accident prone spots?
Cyberabad Commissionerate has come up with a plan to map the number of accidents. In collaboration with the traffic police, they are preparing a database as well as a map that denotes the most accident prone areas on ORR, state and national highways.
How does it work?
Every accident would get recorded by the area traffic police. The IT cell in the Cyberabad Commissionerate is preparing a database with these data and a website, wherein with a single click, anyone can access the details. The highlight of this particular website is that it has a map, just like Google Maps, which will indicate the number of accidents in that area. It also denotes the most accident prone areas. This software would be operational soon.
“This map helps police demarcate the most accident prone areas and for public it helps in creating awareness. Its work is similar to that of Google Maps,” said Avinash Mohanthy, assistant traffic commissioner.
