Satya Nadella’s first interview after he was named CEO of Microsoft on Tuesday. This is what he told Steve Clayton, Microsoft story-teller, at its campus

I’m 46 years-old, I've been with Microsoft for 22 years. I've been married to a girl for the last 22 years who I've known since high school, I have three kids. One thing that defines me is I love to learn and improve. I get excited by new things in life. I buy more books than I read or finish. Being able to watch people do great things is something that truly excites me.

CEO of Microsoft, why do you want this role?

In a software powered world what better place than Microsoft. In terms of being able to take all this human potential of 130,000 people and apply it to world that is more software driven. Opportunity is what fundamentally drove me to take this job

How did you feel when you accepted the role?

Honoured, humbled and excited, three words that come to mind. We have tremendous opportunities that are inspiring but we are also grounded on our challenges. It’s the adventure and the constraint that gives us the zeal to be able to do work.

What is your primary focus ?

Ruthlessly remove any obstacles that hinder innovation, and use Microsoft to do unique things. Focus all the innovation, on things that Microsoft can uniquely do. We refer to ourselves as the do-more company. I want every one of us to find more meaning.
