‘Develop national school standards’

New Delhi: The National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA) have been asked to develop national school standards and school evaluation framework for the government schools sector. "Government has commissioned NUEPA to develop a national school standards and school evaluation/assessment framework for the government school sector," HRD Minister Smriti Irani informed Rajya Sabha in a written reply on Monday.

This is being done with the objective of improvement of schools and performance accountability, based on national best practices and international comparative experience, she said. Different states, she said, have also developed programmes to evaluate and grade their schools.
