Maths can be fun, but it is often looked upon with terror. To encourage mathematical understanding and appreciation among students St Andrews School, Hyderabad, conducted an inter-school maths championship titled ‘Infinity’. Students from Class VI – VIII participated in the event.

Hyderabad: Maths can be fun, but it is often looked upon with terror. To encourage mathematical understanding and appreciation among students St Andrews School, Hyderabad, conducted an inter-school maths championship titled ‘Infinity’. Students from Class VI – VIII participated in the event.

The preliminary round of ‘Infinity’ was held on January 9, saw 17 schools participating. The final six, from Delhi Public School, Suchitra Academy, Sadhu Vaswani International School, St Andrews School, Gitanjali Devashray and Pallavi Model School, moved into the final round of ‘Infinity’ on Wednesday.

Teams were named after Greek Mathematical symbols, Delta, Lambda, Theta, Mu, Pi and Sigma had four students each, trying to compete in a series of timed questions. The championship consisted of six rounds, Buzzer, Audio-Visual, Expert Panel, Activity, Mixed Bag and Rapid Fire.

At the end of the number crunching rounds, Suhani Sharma, Sabyasachi Sahoo, Roshan K and V Rakesh from St Andrews School lifted the championship trophy, while Dakka Vaishnavi, Kushan Raj, Sayam Sethi and Darin Jeff of Delhi Public School, Secunderabad, came second.

Shamita Bhattacharya, Principal, congratulated the winners and said, “This is our maiden venture and I am glad that St Andrews started a first of its kind championship. The enthusiasm and quick and logical thinking of students is remarkable.”
