Nomads of Memory, an artistic journey in three stages, is a solo exhibition by French artist Beatrice deFays, which began on January 11. The three stage art show is unique as the visitor becomes the subject of art work. The exhibition has been extended till January 28 due to the positive response from the public.

Beatrice deFays (B2Fays) started her creative works as an autodidact, first through comic strips and then graphic palettes. Around 1987, she left these tools to dedicate herself to the painting. Winner of numerous awards like ‘Ressort des Arts et de la Creative’ – France, SCAM Grant For The Digital Art Help - France (2003) and ‘Villa Medicis Hors les Murs’ in India (2006), she believes that her works must echo how stories are being written and then erased, as in a palimpsest.

In 1994, her whole work was destroyed by fire. After this, she decided to use the new technologies once again: she wanted to invite the visitor to get into the process of creation. Now, her visitors are her subjects. “I am a painter...I invite the visitor to come into the painting, through material, images, sounds and networks,” the French artist said.

The style of exhibition is as unique as her paintings. The exhibition is spread over three locations, Kalakriti Art Gallery, Alliance Francaise and Goethe Zentrum, to represent the three stages of her theme. The painting at Kalakriti Art Gallery is layered. Fragments of images are superimposed and repeated. Layer on layer, sequence after sequence, the story starts to appear on the canvas.

The multimedia installation at Alliance Francaise seems to progressively come away from the walls. It appears as a sensitive interface, revealing an intangible space. The interactive installations at Goethe Zentrum are camera-captured and generate a transformation of a crossed universe. The change in the pictorial shape and musical actions are immediately perceptible. The exhibition has been extended to cater to the demand from those who have not yet witnessed this unique work. The exhibition is free to all and will be open from 10 am to 5 pm.
