Residents in the twin cities and areas that come under the GHMC could breathe in peace based on an assurance given to the High Court that the garbage on the city roads would be cleared in two days. The PIL bench of Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice SV Bhat were informed by Keshav Rao, counsel for the GHMC that the litter will be removed.

The bench is hearing a PIL filed by B Rajeswari, a lady advocate complaining that the garbage piled up in huge quantities not only on either side of the roads but also on the roads due to GHMC's failure to remove garbage since last few days. Senior Counsel S Satyam Reddy, told the court that huge garbage dumps were piled up in every nook and corner of roads in twin cities and the GHMC has failed in clearing the garbage.

Keshav Rao informed the court that the work of the civic body was effected due to the ongoing strike but that it has now initiated steps for removal of the piled up garbage by using private vehicles and contract workers besides utilising the non-striking staff.

He also informed the bench that GHMC has also sought the help of police in view of apprehension that the striking staff may create obstacles for clearing of garbage from streets with the help of contract workers. The bench directed that the case be posted on July 13.
