Artist V Krishna Ashok talks about his new series ‘Advaita’ and his passion for drawing and painting

Born in Guntur, artist V Krishna Ashok is passionate about drawing and painting since his childhood, he says, “The passion shaped into a dream as I grew up seeing my uncle, who used to work on portraits, hence I did graduation in Fine Arts. After my graduation, I started working as an illustrator for poems and stories in Eenadu newspaper, and later joined Udayam as a cartoonist. That is when I decided to start something on my own and opened a studio of graphic designing and painting in late 90’s. And later I took full time painting.”

“I was born and raised in a village, surrounded by hills, ponds, lakes and greenery, which has helped to gain the colour sense in me from the nature. The people around me have always inspired me and I like the whole world to be one,” says V Krishna Ashok. He has conducted approximately 35 exhibitions across India and abroad. Talking about his new series ‘Advaita The Inner Soul’ he shares, “I have always tried to reach the soul and core of the spiritual self.

I am in search of the meaning of life and the soul; I want to portray the search and the answer in my paintings. ‘Advaita’ is oneness; the man and the woman in these paintings are the soul mates. The bird in my painting is like ‘The soul bird’.” “I have always been following certain themes for my exhibitions that help me touch the soul. That is the main reason for naming this exhibition ‘Advaita’ as every art piece in here, has a significant bird like structure in them, which depicts the soul and it gives a unifying interpretation of the whole body regardless the gender. I tried to portray the inexpressive joy of oneness in my paintings through the texture colour and form,” Ashok adds.

About his future plans he says, “I want to display my work next in Delhi and I am planning to come up with new series called ‘E = mc2’, I look at it beyond the context of ‘Theory of Relativity’ by expressing my thoughts on human relations.” ‘Advaita’ is on display at ICONART Gallery Till June 30 From 11 am to 7 pm
