Hyderabad: The six months old ‘Hyderabadass Comedy Club’ has been slowly picking its pace up with the kind of material being produced. A live example, just like every other show it has put up, is the one called ‘Comedy spotlight’, a Saturday evening show dedicated to featuring, a comedian who is either local or from out of town with two spots before him. This Saturday, all the performers were currently the part of the club with Spotlight on Bhavneet Singh (23) with three spots before him.
Host for the evening was Vivek Muralidharan (26) who with his strong energy and great weaving of his material stood as bridges between performers. Avinash Ghosh (43) who was the first performer of the evening stuck to the cliché initially but had a skill for being spontaneous.
While his responses to the audience burst the audience into laughter especially towards the end, his material stood weak on a whole. The second performer for the night was Mayank Parakh (27), who picked up the audience with his unique way of portraying the obvious. The third spot filled by Shyam Tenali (22) worked with one-liners as he began which did work very well with the audience.
The spot of the night was taken by Bhavneet Singh, who couldn’t resist beginning with his strong material coming from his religious believes. Although beginning with talking about his life as a Punjabi, the act shifted from a topic to topic effortlessly covering various aspects of society.
When compared to his previous acts, He very well managed to take risks while talking about sensitive issues involving religion with utter confidence. His material was fresh and the audience was in sync with his sense of humour. While taking adequate pauses, he took the people on a ride of laughter as he moved on from talking about living a life as a middle-class boy to exploring adulthood.
Although most of the content from the performers played along the same lines of day-to-day social affairs, relationships, religion with jokes on Bollywood here and there, all the performers could still manage to bring out a new angle or an area within, which wasn’t explored yet. On a whole, it was a night filled with people laughing or at least giggling at all times as jokes were versatile enough to feed everyone’s appetite of laughter.
