The Kerala Legislative Assembly MLAs’ sub-committee, constituted to study the problems of non-resident (pravasi) Keralites, has visited Hyderabad. They held a meeting with the Keralites residing in the city under the auspices of All India Malayalees Association (AIMA), Telangana State unit.

Chairman of the Legislature Sub-Committee K V Abdul Khader said the Kerala State government had launched many beneficial schemes, including pension for pravasi Malayalees and a few other new schemes.
The monthly pension for the pravasi Malayalees had been raised to Rs 2,000 by the present State government. He agreed that the benefits of these schemes had, in effect, not reached the pravasi Malayalees including those living in Hyderabad.
Abdul Khader promised to submit a detailed report to the Kerala Legislative Assembly and assured the All India Malayalees Association (AIMA) that all the problems raised by them would be included in the report and the Committee would try its best to solve whatever possible.
Other members of the sub-committee, MLAs Parackal Abdullah, VAbdul Rehman, Karatt Razak assured that they will try their best to resolve all the burning issued being faced by the non-resident Keralites and bring to the notice of the Kerala Assembly and State government the problems. They also agreed to take positive steps in promoting the Malayalam language in Hyderabad. They said they would be in touch with AIMA State unit and apprise them of the developments regarding the issues.
Earlier vice-president of AIMA and senior journalist C G Chandra Mohan who is living in Hyderabad for the last 53 years explained the various burning problems being faced by the pravasi Keralites, particularly in a city like Hyderabad.
He said that the benefits of the schemes launched by the Kerala government has not reached the Keralites residing here. He brought to the notice of the Committee that the Malayalees here are not fully aware of the pension scheme or other beneficial schemes.
