Hyderabad: Bicycling has always been the favored mode of transportation. Folks from all walks of life rise with the sun and head to different roads where they cycle around with uncontainable joy. Cycling in the cool breeze of an otherwise hot and sweaty city is how they welcome the day and they wouldn't have it any other way. But after having a look at the areas of Kondapur, we may not see people cycling anymore.

Though Hyderabad has the highest number of cyclists, the cycling areas are not good at every place. Recently the Kondapur cycling roads were damaged and it’s been more than a month, since it has remained that way. The cycling lane is over 5 km and more. The children especially are willing to cycle but lack of proper roads have upped the risk element.

A regular jogger Preeti said, ‘when it comes to children it is difficult for them to cycle and they are very disappointed because nobody is taking the responsibility’.

Prateek a student said,’ Not only is this incredibly frustrating, especially when your ride is ruined by endless potholes, but underinvestment in roads also makes poor economic sense’. And almost one quarter of people who said they rarely cycle also stated that they would ride more if roads were better maintained. Extrapolated, this would equate to a further 19 per cent of the population riding their bikes.

A secondary school student Harshita said, ‘This road at Kondapur should be repaired at the earliest so that people can resume their cycling activities’
