Kukatpally: Empty lands and areas are rarely found in concrete jungle, especially in places like Kukatpally. And if any area is found empty, then it is found occupied by laundry people.

It is been more than a year and nobody has taken an initiative to construct and develop the area for the use of grounds and parks for the colony people. GHMC officials have turned a blind eye to laundry men occupying government lands.

One of such places is a temple where washer men have encroached it. The devotees are least bothered unaware of who occupies the temple. Encroachers have erected bamboo sheds all over the land. Some of the residents of the colony have been complaining about the encroachment but no action has been taken yet. Now they too have given up complaining with no action being taken.

Basically, there is a need for playground or a park for children, but instead it has become a place for laundry people. Inside the area there is a huge piled up garbage, open pits and sewage running openly. Whether the government has allotted this place for laundry or the land has been usurped are the questions running inside their mind.

Kiran Loga GHMC worker said, “This has been the same since more than a year. As people here are doing the laundry work they have erected bamboos and tied ropes to dry clothes. This has been continuing from more than a year.”

Shambhavi the resident said, “People here are taking the help of laundry people and that is the reason they do not complaint about them. We hardly find laundry people in this area hence people end up coming at this place. But hope soon officials will take action on them and make the laundry area to a ground where people can play cricket and come for walks.”
