Hyderabad: Kaitha Rajender Reddy (41) was suffering from acute pancreatitis since February this year. He was being treated in Warangal during which he developed complications of acute pancreatitis also known as pseudocyst - a large collection of fluid material. He was suffering from vomiting, abdominal swelling and loss of appetite.

Acute pancreatitis (pseudocyst) was treated by Maxcure surgical team with a new advanced technique with endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) guided cystogastrostomy, a recently developed fully covered biliary metal stent with anti-migration system

He was referred to Dr Surender Reddy, consultant, (gastroenterologist and hepatologist) at Maxcure Hospital, Madhapur here. Dr Reddy advised the patient to undergo CT-scan. The scan report showed two large psuedocysts in the abdominal region of 10 x 12 cms and another in the retro gastric region of 12 x 15 cms. Development of symptomatic pseudocysts after acute pancreatitis is a common occurrence, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)-guided transmural drainage has become the treatment of choice for symptomatic pseudocysts.

It was treated by Maxcure surgical team with a new advanced technique with endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) guided cystogastrostomy. A recently developed fully covered biliary metal stent with anti-migration system was opted for cystogastrostomy. The aim was to use a covered metal stent with anti-migration system to drain pseudocysts at single tertiary care centre. The patient recovered smoothly without any complications and avoided otherwise major surgeries. Now the patient is a happy soul with health recovering and getting back his appetite without any complications.
