Commemorating the ‘martyrs’ of Basheerbagh firing incident, all the nine Left parties paid tributes to those who lost their lives 13 years ago. The leaders who gathered at the martyr’s column vowed to take forward the objectives of those killed in the unarmed agitation. They emphasised that inspirations will be drawn from those heroes who died fighting the anti-people policy of the government in the year 2000. CPI, CPM, MCPI (U), UCCIR ML, New Democracy, Forward Block, RSP and CPI (ML) took part in the programme.

They emphasised that inspirations will be drawn from those heroes who died fighting the anti-people policy of the government in the year 2000. CPI, CPM, MCPI (U), UCCIR ML, New Democracy, Forward Block, RSP and CPI (ML) took part in the programme.
They held that while the people fought the World Bank policies adopted by the then TDP government, the same policies were being forced upon by the Congress on the people. Attempts by the government towards privatisation of the electricity should vehemently be countered, felt the leaders. AP police gunned down three protesters at Basheerbagh, as they were leading a rally to State Assembly demanding rollback of power tariff hike.
