With a focus on conserving energy, twin trade shows--Electri Expo and Renew Expo--was inaugurated at the Hitex Exhibition Center in Hyderabad on Thursday. The three-day exhibition was inaugurated by chief guest AK Goel who is the advisor to the Telangana government. G Raghuma Reddy, chairman and managing director, Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana also graced the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Goel said, “Conservation of energy is the need of the hour. Energy saved is energy produced. Every room and house must have master switches similar to hotels to avoid wastage of power. Capacity banks at sub-station level will help save 7 to 8 per cent energy.”

“Electricity billing must be centralised similar to mobile phone billing. This will help study power usage pattern. When mobile phone billing is done remotely, then why not power usage?” Goel felt. Focussing on the reason for power shortage in Telangana, Raghuma Reddy said, “The problem is due to lack of power generation plants in the State. Most of these are located in Andhra Pradesh while consumption is more in Telangana.

That is why the Telangana government has come up with a Power General Action plan. This includes 6,000 MW from Genco and 4,000 MW from NTPC. These companies can produce 10,000MW of power which will be ready in the next three to four years. Once it happens we will have self sufficient power in Telangana.”

“Conservation of power is paramount. We must only use star rated equipments. Domestic customers can save energy which would be used by the industries. We can always bank on solar energy. It is the best alternative. All the districts of Telangana have excellent solar radiation. Hence, we recently called and finalised bids for 500 MW Solar Energy production. We even placed purchase orders. In the next year-and-a-half, we may get 1,000 MW of solar energy.

Soon the Telangana government may also call for fresh tenders for 500 MW of solar power generation. Similarly, the government is actively pursuing and encouraging roof top solar power production model and encouraging many houses to produce power. In the GHMC limits, 2,000 MW of power is consumed. Through roof top solar generation method, private houses may generate nearly 200 MW of power,” Raghuma added.

The two shows have been organised in association with TSSPDCL and TNREDC (Telangana New renewable Energy Development Corporation), ISLE, Indian Society for Premises Automation and Control, State Private Electrical Workers Association, Twin cities ‘B’ Grade Electrical Contractors, SESI, TECA, IWPA, FSME India and others.

Electrical Products on display

Solar powered ACs, fans, innovative air-conditioning, lighting, solar powered toys, solar street lights, solar systems for houses, energy saving ceiling fans, rooftop solar, solar water pump controller, earthing equipment etc are the highlights of the show. Sixty exhibitors are exhibiting their products. Some of these products on display includes distribution equipment, cabling and wiring products, insulation materials, package transformer sub-stations, low-voltage switching devices, robotics, telecommunications, safety systems and devices, various types of lights—led, decorative, garden and campus, energy saving devices, generators, batteries and cells, uninterrupted power supply equipment, inverters, lifts and escalators, air-conditioning systems, fans, voltage stabilisers, house and building automation, facility management, daylight technology, photovoltaic systems, security systems.
