Srinivasan, 45, became theA first South Asian to ever beA nominated to the circuitA court by President BarackA Obama last June, but theA Senate Judiciary A CommitteeA announced his confirmationA hearing for next week onlyA on A Monday. "The DC Circuit, as youA know, is often considered theA nation's second-highestA court, but it has twice asA many vacancies as any otherA court of appeals, and itsA workload has increased byA over 20 percent since 2005,"A Obama's press A Secretary JayA Carney said. "Sri's confirmation will be an important first step to fillingA this court's four vacancies,A and he will be, whenA confirmed, the first SouthA Asian circuit court judge inA history," he said urging theA Senate to move swiftly toA also confirm the 15 additionalA judicial nomineesA waiting for votes.
