Obama's Sixth State of the Union address Highlights

Washington, United States: US President Barack Obama delivered the sixth State of the Union address. President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that it was time for Americans to "turn the page" on years of economic troubles, terrorism and lengthy wars, using his sixth State of the Union speech to remind listeners that his presidency ushered in an era of smarter American leadership and a growing US economy.

Here are the highlights of his speech:

• Will double the pace of reducing carbon pollution
• I said there wasn’t a liberal America, or a conservative America; a black America or a white America—but a United States of America
• Leading, always, with the example of our values. That’s what makes us exceptional. That’s what keeps us strong

• In Cuba, we are ending a policy that is long past its expiration date
• I call on…Congress to show the world that we are united...by passing a resolution to authorize the use of force against ISIL
• We are leading a broad coalition, including Arab nations, to degrade and ultimately destroy ISIL
• We lead best when we combine military power with smart diplomacy; when we leverage our power with coalition building
• We need a tax code that truly helps working Americans
• We can use that money to help more families pay for child care and send their kids to college
• Congress...needs to pass a law that makes sure a woman is paid the same as a man for doing the same work. Really—it’s 2015
• We’re the only advanced country on Earth that doesn’t guarantee paid sick leave or paid maternity leave"
