head2 Kadapa: District Collector Kona Sashidhar said the State government was ready to earmark adequate budget for the development of SCs and STs lands in the district.A The District Collector on Wednesday visited Siddavaram village of Porumalla mandal and inspected a 60-acre land given by the government to SCs and STs under Indira Jala Prabha scheme. Of the 60 acres, about 40 acres are being cultivated and the remaining land has not come up under cultivation. On the occasion, he interacted with beneficiaries and asked them why another 20 acres of land was not cultivated. The beneficiaries said that they were facing unscheduled power cuts and moreover, they were not getting sufficient water from bore wells due to steep fall in ground water table levels. Responding to their woes, Kona Shashidar advised the farmers to cultivate vegetables with the help of drip irrigation facility and give up the idea of paddy and other crops as these crops need huge quantities of water. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the district administration had already developed about 18,000 acres of land for SCs and STs and it was now planning to develop a total of one lakh acres under the scheme in the district. The District Collector said the State government had released the budget for the development of SCs and STs lands and appealed to the beneficiaries to avail the facility. He also directed the officials to take adequate steps for reaching all the schemes to the beneficiaries and warned of taking severe action against the concerned officials if the schemes did not reach the beneficiaries. Officials of different departments were present.
