Nalgonda: Several leaders on Monday garlanded the statue of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and paid rich tributes on the occasion of Phule’s 126th death anniversary.

Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukender Reddy, Nalgonda Municipal Chairperson Boddupally Lakshmi Srinivas, BC Welfare Association district president Chakra Hari Rama Raju, CPM district secretary M Sudhakar Reddy and retired IAS officer B Prabhakar were among those paid rich tributes to the late leader.

Speaking on the occasion, Gutha reminded that Jyotiba Phule was one of the prominent social reformers who waged movement against the caste discrimination in India. He had also established a girls' school highlighting the need for girl child education.

He had also run an orphan home for widows and needy children. “Jyotiba Phule devoted his entire life for the liberation of untouchables,” he reminded.

Terming Phule an idealistic man, Boddupalli Lakshmi Srinivas said he formed the Satya Shodhak Samaj with the aim of protecting the lower castes from exploitation.

He had also fought against the child marriages and also strove for girls’ education, Turning Phule’s dreams into reality was true tribute to the late leader, she added.

Swamy Goud, Venkatapathi, Srinivas Goud, Vidyula Venkateshwarlu, Vidyam Venkateshwarlu, Retd IAS Cholleti Prabhakar, BC Youth Association district leaders D Lakshminarayana, G Venkanna and others were present.
