Kothagudem: Joint Collector M Ramkishan has said that cashless fair price shops were on the anvil as part of the State and Central governments’ policy on evolving a society free from cash transactions.

Talking to The Hans India on Sunday, he said there were 2,74,849 ration cards, including Annapurna, Antyodaya and food security cards under the limits of 442 fair price shops.

Currently, cashless transactions are going on at petrol bunks with the help of the swiping machines. Awareness programmes on cashless transactions are being conducted in the district, predominantly in Agency areas. “Even when there is no internet facility, cashless transactions can be conducted through mobile phones,” he added.
