Nalgonda: Lack of toilets allegedly became the cause of death of a student of ZP High School, Akkalaigudem of Nalgonda mandal, who went out for open defecation on Children’s Day. According to an eye witness and Nalgonda One-Town SI Hanumanth Reddy, Vallapu Vijender (11), studying sixth class in Akkalaigudem ZPHS, along with his friend Saidulu, went near SLBC canal, 300 meters away from the school, to go to toilet, during lunch time.

Vijender fell into the water when he entered the canal. Hearing his screams, Saidulu tried to help him out but he too fell in the canal. Vijender was washed away while Saidulu grabbed something and was saved by some people. On information, police and fire services rushed to the spot and fished out Vijender’s body.

The angry family members of the deceased, villagers and ABVP students staged a dharna before the school with the body. To control the situation, DSP Sudhakar and RDO Venkatachary rushed to the school and consoled the victim’s family members.

Assuring justice to Vijender’s parents – Radha and Ramesh - daily laborers, RDO Venakatachary, on behalf of the district administration, announced Rs 2 lakh compensation and 2 BHK to them. With this, parents and students withdrew dharna and shifted the body to District Government Hospital for postmortem. Nalgonda One-Town police registered a case and investigation is on.
