The district administration was striving to set up libraries, he said, while addressing the concluding session of the Grandhalaya Samstha Week celebrations at Kothagudem Club.

State Grandhalaya Samstha Chairman Dindigal Rajender presided. Yellandu MLA Koram Kanakayya and Aswaraopet legislator and State Tricor Chairman Tati Venkateshwarlu were among those present. Ramkishan, who lit the traditional lamp on the occasion, garlanded the portraits of fathers of library movement Vattikota Alwar Swamy and Dr S R Ranganadhan. He told the gathering that “knowledge which is necessary for everyone is provided by libraries”. He stated that the importance of libraries had dwindled in the light of advancing Science and Technology .

Meanwhile, Venkateshwarlu announced sanction of Rs 10 lakh at the rate of Rs 2 lakh each for reviving libraries in five mandals of his constituency. MLA Kanakayya said Rs 10 crore was being spent for developing libraries in his constituency. The guests gave away books and mementos to the winners of various events conducted during the Library Week. Various cultural events were organised to mark the day.
