Festive spirit has gripped the temple town of Bhadrachalam on Monday as thousands of devotees from across the country witnessed the celestial wedding of Lord Rama and His Consort Sita. The wedding was performed at 12.30 pm on the day at Mithila Stadium here.

As per the tradition, State minsters Indrakaran Reddy, Tummala Nageswara Rao and Talasani Srinivas Yadav offered silk clothes and muthyala talambralu on behalf of the State government.
The Kalyana Mahotsavam proceedings began by bringing Lord Rama idol from the temple to Mithila Stadium amidst music and vedic chanting. The idol of Goddess Sita was seated on the pedestal while the priests performed Viswakshena Puja at 10 am.
As part of the programme, Punyahavachanam and other rituals like Pravarana, Mokshabandhanam, Yagnopaveetham, Varapuja were performed.
Lord Rama idol was decorated with Pachala Pathakam, gifted by Lord’s ardent devotee Bhakta Ramadasu. Goddess Sita was adorned with Chintaku Patakam.
Priests placed ‘jeelakarra bellam’ paste on the heads of Lord Rama and Sita idols at 12 pm in Abhijit lagnam. Later the couple played ‘banthulata’ followed by ‘talambralu’.At the end of the celestial wedding, harathi was given to the Lord couple.
The running commentary of the Kalyanam by the priests attracted many devotees. Several devotees from both the Telugu states and neighbouring states thronged the venue and offered Muthyala Talambralu, a mixture of pearls, rice, turmeric and saffron.
The temple authorities made large-scale arrangements for the devotees, who reached the temple town two days ago. Separate queue lines were arranged for providing hassle-free darshan to all the devotees. As many as 50 counters were arranged for free distribution of Talambralu in the temple town.
The banks of River Godavari was filled with pilgrims since morning hours on the day to take a holy dip. State Roads and Transport Corporation (TSRTC) operated 380 special buses from all parts of the state. MP Seetharam Naik, SC Corporation Chairman Pidamarthi Ravi, MLCs Balasani Lakshminarayana, Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, former TTD chairman Bapiraju, ZP chairperson G Kavitha and others witnessed the wedding.
High court Judge Ramesh Ranganathan, Endowment Commissioner Siva Shankar, Warangal North Zone IGP Nagi Reddy, Joint Collector M Ramkishan, TTD Assistant Executive Officer Srinivas Raju, SP Amber Kishore Jha, Additional Superintendents Sangram Singh and B Ashok Kumar attended the wedding ceremony.
