SC VERDICT ON SC, ST ACT Left, Dalit organisations stage protest
The representatives of various people’s organisation along with the leaders of Left parties here Tuesday expressed their unhappiness over the verdict of the apex court, which diluted the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Khammam: The representatives of various people’s organisation along with the leaders of Left parties here Tuesday expressed their unhappiness over the verdict of the apex court, which diluted the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
They held the BJP government at the Centres responsible for the death of nine Dalits in violence triggered by the Supreme Court’s judgement.Dalit organisation called for national bandh on Monday in protest against the judgements, banning automatic arrest under the Act.
Nine persons died in violence in clashes. The Dalit organisations and activists of the Left parties took out a massive rally from Pavilion grounds to the District Collectorate here.Speaking on the occasion, the leaders said the Supreme Court verdict may lead to increasing attacks on the Dalits.
They demanded that the government take initiative and request the Supreme Court to take back its verdict and continue with same old SC/ST Act.The CPI-M party State leader Ponnam Venkateshwarlu and the representatives of various people’s
organisation were present at the rally.
