Avail welfare schemes: MLA

Vijayawada: Congress legislator Yelamanchali Ravi called upon people to make use of the welfare schemes of State government. He inaugurated 'Amma Hastham' at Amarajeevi Potti Sri Ramulu Municipal Corporation High School in Krishnalanka on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, the legislator said that this government was striving hard to serve the needy and the poor. He reminded that the Congress party and it's leaders were always in the forefront to work for the cause of the poor. He said Indira Gandhi worked on the slogan 'food, shelter and clothing,' which are the basic needs of people. He reminded that the former Chief Minister Kotla Vijayabaskhar Reedy was the first one to give rice for Rs 1.85 paisa per kilo. He said that later N T Rama Rao moderated it to Rs 2 per Kg. But the present Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy went a step ahead and gave rice to needy at Rs 1 per kg, he said. He said that Kiran Kumar Reddy was trying to ameliorate the conditions of the poor. With a view to reduce the financial burden on the poor, the State government was offering nine essential goods at Rs 185, he said. More than 58,363 beneficiaries of this scheme are located in Vijayawada East Assembly segment for which government was spending Rs.62,44,841 as subsidy on this scheme, he said. The Krishna District Civil Supplies Officer, Prabhakar Rao, Vijayawada Urban Tahsildhar Shiva Rao among others were present.
