Vijayawada: The indefinite strike by the members of the Andhra Pradesh Non-Gazetted Officers Association begins with the employees walking out of their offices from the mid-night of Monday. The other employees, whose work begins on Tuesday morning, would join the strike at 10 am, making it a complete strike for Samaikyandhra.

Besides the APNGOs, the employees from the departments like revenue, treasury, library, municipal, civil supplies, RTC and electricity are joining the strike to protect the integrated State. The municipal, treasury and civil supplies staff and officers’ associations have already served strike notices, while the others are joining the stir in the next couple of days. The students and teachers have also extended support to the strike and have been participating in protests for the past 12 days bringing life to a standstill in coastal districts.

Relay hunger strikes, rallies, road blockades, besides a number of different forms of protests are witnessed every day since July 30, when the Congress Working Committee announced its decision to divide the State. The multiple system operators (MSOs) from coastal districts have joined the protests on Monday and withdrew all entertainment channels in support of the Samaikyandhra demand. Their bandh would be in force for the next 48 hours. The petrol dealers association too had extended support to the Samaikhyandhra demand and decided to close the filling stations in Krishna and Guntur districts for next two days.

The student JAC had given a call to hold protests on the national highways and at all the Central government offices to register their protest against division of the State. The JAC, which had been leading the protests from the day one are set to go tougher in the days to come to register their protest.

The libraries in 13 districts of Seemandhra would remain closed from Tuesday morning as they also join the strike call given by the APNGOs. The private educational institutions in Krishna district have also announced that they would keep their schools and colleges closed for the next six days in support of the strike.

Municipal staff join strike

The municipal employees JAC has joined the Andhra Pradesh Non Gazetted Officers (APNGOs) indefinite strike from midnight of August 12th.The employees of the municipal corporations in the Seemandhra region have backed the APNGOs decision to fight against bifurcation of the State. The leaders of the municipal employees JAC had served strike notice to the Principal Secretary in Hyderabad.
