Vijayawada: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Krishna district unit president and Mylavaram legislator Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, will launch an indefinite hunger strike from Thursday in protest against the indifferent attitude of the ruling Congress and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in dividing the State.

Announcing his decision at a press conference here on Wednesday, Umamaheswara Rao said that over 300 persons from Seemandhra have sacrificed their lives against division of the State and regretted that the Congress leadership did not respond positively. He criticized the Congress for the move to divide the State and remaining indifferent despite the people holding protests. He said that the people of Seemandhra from 13 districts and those in Hyderabad were in anguish over their future while the rest of the people in the country were celebrating Independence Day. He said that the Seemandhra people were losing their freedom and were in distress.

He criticized Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for remaining silent even as the people were fighting on the streets. He wondered how the Prime Minister could remain indecisive even as the government employees were going on strike.

He further said that legislators from different parties have resigned to protect the unity of the State. However, the ruling Congress legislators, MPs and Ministers from Seemandhra were hanging on to their posts. He demanded that the Union Ministers, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, K Chiranjeevi, D Purandheswari, Panabaka Lakshmi and others quit their posts and join the Samaikyandhra agitation.
