Vijayawada: The Samaikyandhra Student Joint Action Committee president Devineni Avinash urged the Congress Working Committee to take back its decision on the separation of State. The Student JAC has organised 'Samaikya Puja’ at Gunadala Shivalayam and offered prayers to the deity. Avinash, addressing the gathering, said that people of Seemandhra were fighting for the unity of the State. He claimed that the agitation was first of its kind in the entire world, which was happening for the unity of a State. Samaikyandhra agitators were following the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi in conducting the agitation in a peaceful manner, he said.
Avinash requested the Seemandhra ministers and MLAs to support their agitation and increase pressure on the UPA government. He hoped that the Antony committee would understand the feelings of the people from the region and suggest the Congress Working Committee to take back its decision on bifurcation. He appreciated the spirit of APNGOs who were agitating for the unity of State. Later, he visited the relay hunger strike camp run by Private Educational institutions JAC and extended his support.
APNGOs block NH
The APNGOs association organised road blockade on the 8th day of their strike, bringing the vehicular traffic on the National Highway to a halt. Members of APNGOs Association West Krishna unit, Electricity Employees Union JAC, Treasury Employees JAC, APSRTC Employees JAC, and Transport Employees JAC formed human chains on National Highway at Ramavarappadu Circle, Benz Circle, Kanaka Durga Varadhi and Gollapudi. The APNGOs JAC convener, A Vidya Sagar, addressing the gathering, said that people of this region were much attached to Hyderabad. They played a key role in the development of Hyderabad, he said. He condemned the statements made by Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) leaders that Samaikyandhra movement was being promoted by capitalists. He requested the T leaders to respect the sentiments of Seemandhra people and not to make controversial statements on bifurcation. The APSRTC employees JAC chairman, Y V Rao, said that the government can’t suppress the movement by using Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA). Traffic was disrupted for some time on NH9 and NH5. Vehicles coming from Hyderabad were diverted to Kaabela from Gollapudi.
Civic staff begin relay fasts
Meanwhile, the municipal employees JAC has started relay hunger strikes at Vijayawada Municipal Corporation office. Municipal Employees JAC president D Eswar began the relay hunger strike and participated in ‘rasta roko’ at Y Junction, Gollapudi. He demanded the UPA government to take back its decision on Telangana.
