Hyderabad: Pan India walker and founder of Crossbow Miles Srishti Bakshi is all set to launch ‘Night Walk’ in the city on 2-Dec. Srishti Bakshi, speaking to The Hans India, said, “We are going to cover a distance of 3,800 km across India (Kanyakumari to Kashmir). In this journey, we are going to traverse through a lot of cities.
The concept of night relates only to cities and that is the reason why we chose night for walks. Night is a time unsafe for girls and women. We want to sow the seeds of change in the minds of people that you cannot look down upon women if they travel at nights. We want to reclaim the night as a safe space for women. We would start this walk from 9:30 pm from Peoples Plaza along with the SHE team, that is equally enthusiastic to make Hyderabad a safe place for women to live in.”
She further added, “After covering every 30 km, we will stop and identify an institution like school, or college or government office, towards the afternoon we will conduct a workshop, with the help of District Collector’s office. We will also organise women for workshops, to help them understand the law which stands for their protection and how through internet they can get in touch with people for help.”
When asked about the difficulty to connect with people as languages are different, Srishti Bakshi told The Hans India, “Language, I thought, was a big barrier, but one thing which connects is womanhood. Everybody has gone through some or the other form of harassment while going to school or work. I think my mission would help me in connecting with the people in the State.”
“Each and every citizen has to take part in such kind of workshops, thinking that today it is somebody else’s daughter and wife but tomorrow it could be from my family. I am looking for fathers’ participation more in this, because it is only their understanding of issues which a girl child faces can bring about lot of constructive change in our country,” said Srishti Bakshi.
Srishti Bakshi is also planning to establish a Crossbow Miles Foundation in the city by next year. She is planning to gather people who can help her sensitise the issues which a woman and a girl faces when they go out.
