Staging a hunger strike in front of the chief warden's office on Monday, the students of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) took to the protest against the relocation of few students from various hostels during summer break.

The students agitated against the move to lock down hostels and relocate students affecting them particularly the students of integrated and masters programme pursue internships and projects during summer break.

President of the UoH students' union, P Sreerag stated that they are not going to accept the closure of hostels and relocation of students for a month as the next academic session is scheduled to commence from July.

The student leaders argued that the administration was not even sparing the visually-challenged students and are forcing students to shift to other hostels in the name of saving electricity and water.

Previously, the University had accorded permission to about 450 post-graduate students preparing for competitive exams or attending to official internships.

However, this month, the University issued a press communique indicating that the decision to accommodate students in a ‘handful of hostels’ was ‘to rationalize the use of electricity, water, and management of messes’.
