A 27-year-old businessman was arrested on Sunday for allegedly assaulting a traffic police constable and a bus driver.

According to the police, the accused, Siddarth T Reddy, a resident of Kondapur, was driving in his car to his house when a bus collided with the vehicle at 6.30 am near Madhapur.

It is learnt that Siddarth was in an inebriated condition and got into a physical fight with the bus driver. Witnessing the disruption in traffic movement, K Gopal, a traffic constable intervened asking Siddarth to move his car, which was blocking the road. However, Siddarth attacked even the traffic constable who immediately alerted the patrolling team following which the accused was taken into custody. His alcohol count was found to be 160 mg/ 100 ml after a breath analysing test was conducted.

A case has been registered against Siddarth under Section 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 279(Rash driving or riding on a public way—whoever drives any vehicle, or rides, on any public way in a manner so rash or negligent as to endanger human), 323(Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 341(Punishment for wrongful restraint) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC and Section 185 of Motor Vehicle Act.
