The Election Commission of India on Tuesday removed None Of The Above (NOTA) option from the ballot papers of Rajya Sabha and the Legislative council polls following the directive of Supreme court issued on August 21. However, the apex court notified that the NOTA option will be continued for Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.
A bench comprising of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud has issued the orders dismissing the plea of EC to allow NOTA option in ballot papers of the Rajya Sabha polls. The bench said that NOTA option is availed only for individual voters in direct elections and not for Rajya Sabha and Legislative Council polls.
It is also directed all the state Chief Electoral Officers to remove the option from the ballot papers of the Rajya Sabha and the Legislative Council polls.
