Srikakulam: About 21 fishermen of D.Matsyalesam village in Etcherla mandal in the district were detained in Pakistan by its coast guards on Wednesday and it came to light on Thursday. Every year fishermen from Srikakulam are migrating to Veeravalli and other areas of Gujarath for fish hunt in the month of September and returned May or June months. In an attempt to hunt fish the fishermen crossed the border and entered into Pakistan waters in the Arabian Sea.

Immediately coast guards of the Pakistan detained four of them and remaining 17 persons also held up with them. On learning about it local advocate and fishermen union leader, Moogi Gurumurthy in turn informed the plight of the fishermen to officials and people representatives. On learning about it local MLA and minister for energy, K.Kala Venkata Rao explained the situation to Chief Minister, N.Chandrababu Naidu and immediately CM responded and spoke to AP Bhavan officials at New Delhi for quick and safe release of victims from Pakistan.

The victims are identified as Kesam Raju, Ganagalla RamaRao, Kesam Yerrayya, Surada AppaRao, Surada Kishore and others.

On receiving information family members of the victims started worry about safety of their kin and they are crying for government help. Etcherla mandal TDP and YSRCP leaders rushed to D.Matsyalesam village to console family members of the victims. District collector, K.Dhanunjaya Reddy, superintendent of police, Dr C.M.Trivikrama Varma directed the officials to collect details of victims.
