Srikakulam: Cyclone Pethai alert sounded in Srikakulam district in the wake of IMD warnings. District collector, K.Dhanunjaya Reddy asked all revenue and other departments officials of all 11 coastal mandals to maintain strict vigil on cyclone movement round the clock.

He directed civil supplies officials to store essential goods including fuel to face any scarcity in the wake of cyclone. He convened a meeting with agriculture department officials to create awareness among mainly paddy farmers to postpone their harvesting works for two days till clearance of cyclone threat.

All the village level government staff of coastal areas were asked to create awareness among fishermen and asked them not to venture into the Sea Bay of Bengal till cyclone threat dropped. Official communications also forwarded to village level public representatives and staff regarding Pethai cyclone and its severity. In the wake of busy paddy harvesting works farmers are in worry over cyclone threat. Collector directed officials to open cyclone shelters in coastal area to vacate public in an emergency.
