In Trichy the members of the Regional Monitoring Committee South of the National Green Tribunal NGT had taken stocks of the waste collection practices, which is hailed as a role model city in the solid waste management practices done in Tamil Nadu
TRICHY: In Trichy the members of the Regional Monitoring Committee (South) of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had taken stocks of the waste collection practices, which is hailed as a role model city in the solid waste management practices done in Tamil Nadu.
A team of 16 officials who inspected the solid waste management practices done in Trichy, include the chairperson of Regional Monitoring Committee (South) Justice P Jyothimani and senior IAS officers from Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana states and the Union territories of Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep.
The team had first inspected a micro compost centre which is located on Kulikkarai road where the biodegradable waste is converted into manure while the non-biodegradable waste is segregated and sold to scrap dealers. By doing so, the waste is prevented from being accumulated in dump yards.
The team after that inspected the quick response (QR) code-enabled waste collection process located in Thillai Nagar area where the supervisors would scan the unique QR code which is given to each house for the purpose of digitally recording the houses that have been covered under door-to-door waste collection, which makes sure that the waste has been collected completely.
The senior officials said the success model of Trichy could be implemented in other parts of south Indian.
