Monsoon has arrived and helping us to relieve from the hot summer.

Although, we must remember that it will also cause many health issues for us if we don’t maintain a proper diet during the season.

Mostly, the rainy season affects one’s immune system and it is very important for us to be careful about what to eat and what not.

Here, we are listing a few tips for you to stay healthy this monsoon.

Avoid spicy food

If you are prone to allergies, avoid spicy food as it increases body temperature and stimulates blood circulation which leads to the faster spread of allergies.

Careful with meat

Avoid too much of fish or meat especially red meat this season as they are too heavy on the digestive system.

If you are quite the non-vegetarian, then go for lighter meal preparations like soups and stews rather than heavy gravies.

Smaller meals

During monsoon as the humidity levels are high, the body takes a longer time for digestion.

This is why it is best advised to have a moderate intake of food during meals rather than larger ones.

Pulses and cereals

Pulses and cereals are rich in minerals and iron which are a good source of energy.

Well-cooked sprouts, corns, dals, ragi, soya beans, etc should be had in generous quantities to maintain a well-balanced diet.

Eat vegetables and fruits

Add a lot of green and coloured vegetables to your everyday diet as they contain a lot of essential nutrients that help you stay healthy.

Avoid leafy vegetables like spinach, cabbage and cauliflower.

Pomegranates, apples, chikoos, strawberries and bananas are also a good idea.

But always make sure that your fruits and vegetables are washed thoroughly with water and salt to get rid of all the soil, microbes and pesticides.

Herbal warm water

Those who suffer from infections and fever during rainy season can find relief with decoction prepared from ingredients like ginger, tulsi, and a dash of medicinal spices like cloves, pepper, cinnamon, cardamom.

More water

Whether you feel thirsty or not, a good habit to develop is to drink plenty of water.

Be very careful in drinking only boiled or filtered water to protect yourself from harmful germs which are more likely to contaminate water this season.

Warm beverages

Green tea, black tea and herbal teas are very popular as they have antibacterial and antiviral properties.

Drink lots of tea and add some ginger, pepper, honey, mint or basil leaves to make all the healthier.

Drinking too much of coffee or tea with milk however negates these benefits and dehydrates your body.

Right food at work

Avoid roadside foods like chaats, juices, buttermilk, chuskis or kulfis.

The water they use could be easily contaminated and will definitely cause health problems.

Instead, carry your own snacks or choose to eat food which is cooked in hygienic conditions that you are sure of.
