This is with reference to the report ‘Want full land for Ram, asserts VHP’ (THI, Nov 26). At the VHP Dharma Sabha in Ayodhya, senior RSS functionary Krishna Gopal said youth could go to any extent on the Ram Janmabhoomi issue and that Hindus wanted temples in Ayodhya, Kashi and Mathura. The Ayodhya Dharma Sabha was ballyhooed by the VHP leaders to organise the biggest gathering of ‘Ram bhakts’ in the temple town. However, almost half of the vast ‘Badey Bhaktmaal ki Bagia’ ground in Karsevakpuram — where the VHP has a ‘karyashala’ working on the proposed temple — was empty.
While VHP spokesperson on Ayodhya Sharad Sharma claimed around two lakh people attended the programme including several BJP MPs and MLAs, but none was seen on the stage. Uttar Pradesh Police put the attendance at about 80,000. Reports say the crowd strength may have been closer to 30,000.
It is clear that the VHP and RSS and other members of the so called Hindu Pariwar are trying to rake up the Ram temple issue and create communal discord in the entire country. Their machinations to destruct the secular fabric of the country need to be condemned by one and all. Potti Rajasekhar, Hyderabad
In such circumstances, when Vishwa Hindu Parishad was trying to spoil the communal harmony and peaceful environment of the country, Muslim community is highly appreciated for showing great patience and restrain. It was really a critical situation in Ayodhya on 25th November and everyone was scared to witness a massive disharmony, but the Muslims made neither positive response nor negative. That is why the VHP could not succeed in its purpose for which the grand gathering was conducted in temple town. It also shows that Muslims have an absolute faith on law and order and county's judiciary system. I think now the government should put some preventive steps in place to stop such gatherings, because these are threatening the beautiful environment of the country.
