New Delhi: CPI General Secretary S Sudhakar Reddy on Saturday criticised the Congress for mishandling the Telangana issue. He said it treated the State formation issue as its internal matter. Since Antony Committee is a Congress body, the Government should set up a committee to address the concerns of the people from the Seemandhra region, he demanded.

Addressing media persons after the two-day CPI National Executive that concluded here, he said that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has spoken in consonance with the sentiments of the people of Seemandhra region. The Congress has clearly failed to properly handle the situation, which resulted in the sudden outbursts in the Seemandhra region.

The Centre ought to have properly addressed the concerns of the people of the Seemandhra region, so that the creation of Telangana could have been a smooth affair. Compared to Telangana, he said the agitation for Gorkhaland is a small affair. Defending the decision on the creation of Telangana, he said it is a very old demand and it had to be conceded.

The CPI party, he said, expressed serious concern over the increasing incidents of violence in the State of Andhra Pradesh in the aftermath of the announcement of UPA-II and Congress decision to create the separate State of Telangana by bifurcating Andhra Pradesh.

Justifying the demand for Telangana, Sudhakar Reddy said the clumsy handling of the issue by the Centre had not only sparked dissatisfaction and anger in the Seemandhra part of the State but also given a flip to such demands in the other parts of the country.

The CPI National Executive appealed to the people of all regions of Andhra Pradesh to maintain peace and calm and not resort to violence. “All issues related to bifurcation of the State have to be resolved through mutual consultation with the spirit to maintain Telugu brotherhood. The legal process for creation of the State of Telangana should be completed without any delay while taking people of all regions into confidence. Narrow political electoral gains should not mar the process,” its resolution said.
