Earlier in the day, the BJP Parliamentary Board formally endorsed the candidature of Sitharaman for the lone Rajya Sabha seat that fell vacant due to the death of former chief minister Nedurumalli Janardhana Reddy. Her election to RS is almost unanimous as both the TD and BJP enjoy a majority in the AP Assembly.
Initially the buzz had it that Pawan Kalyan would file nomination for the lone RS seat being vacated by the sad demise of Nedurumalli Janardhana Reddy, the former Chief Minister of erstwhile Andhra Pradesh. Nevertheless, finally the BJP high command in consultation with TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu had decided to send Nirmala from Andhra Pradesh.
