Maharashtra Releases Water; Babhali Gates Opened, Maharashtra Government on Tuesday released water from Babhali Project in conformity with the Supreme Court order to that effect.

Gates of Babhali project in Maharashtra were opened on TuesdayNizamabad: Maharashtra Government on Tuesday released water from Babhali Project in conformity with the Supreme Court order to that effect. It may be recalled that the Supreme Court in its judgment of February 28, 2013, stated that the Maharashtra Government should release water every year from July 1 to October 28 to the downstream Sri Ram Sagar Project. And the gates would be kept closed from October 29 to June 30.

All the 14 gates were lifted on Tuesday and they would be kept in that position till October 28. At present, 0.9 tmcft water is in the reservoir at a level of 1070 ft. About 0.7 tmcft water from the project would reach Sri Ram Sagar Project. The Irrigation Department officials of both Telangana and Maharashtra Governments were present at the project.
