An eating competition held as part of the Onam celebrations turned tragic as a 55-year-old contestant died as an idli got stuck in his throat in a village near Palakkad in Kerala.
According to the police, Kandamuthan, the contestant, got suffocated as he downed idlis in quick succession on the Thiru Onam day on Monday. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he died while being treated.. The competition was organised by a village arts club.
