Chennai school boy drowns during education trip

Yet another case of mismanagement by school education tours ended in a tragedy for school children. A trip by school students to a theme park at Sriperumbudur near Chennai ended on a tragic note after a 11-year-old boy drowned in a swimming pool there, police said on Sunday.

The trip had been organised by his school from Tiruvallur.The incident occurred when the boy fainted in the deep end of the pool while playing with his classmates. He was immediately taken by his teacher and theme park officials to a hospital, but declared dead on arrival, police said.

Similar tour by an engineering college of Hyderabad had last year ended in death of over 20 students in a flash flood in River Beas near Shimla.
