New Delhi: The Congress party on Monday launched an online application -based membership drive to strengthen its base in the national capital.

The membership drive was launched by former prime minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur in the presence of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ajay Makan and senior leader PC Chacko.

Maken said that the drive is aimed at attracting those who truly believe in the ideology of the Congress party.

"Today Dr. Manmohan Singh ji and Gursharan ji have launched a membership drive through social media in Delhi. This is a web based membership drive and is also application based. Android phone users can download the app to fill up the membership form and apply for membership. With this there are now four ways to get membership of the party," Maken said.

"Becoming a member of Congress party has now become easy, one can download the form from the party website and fill it up. One can also apply for membership over facebook. From now on availability of the forms to become a member will not be an issue...we want genuine membership, people who really believe in the ideology of the Congress party, people who want to be a part ofCongress movement, a secular movement," he added.
