In the nature, everything has a place. The universe is beautiful because everything that exists in it has a purpose and reason. Now, let us understand the purpose and reason of existence for the fringe elements that claim to represent the majority in India.
First, it is clear that they don’t represent the majority, lest we would be calling them mainstream organisations and not the fringe ones.
As these fringe ones claim India was once superior nation or the best one that existed so far on the earth. If so, why it collapsed or imploded? What were the reasons that led to the disappearance of so great population and only their fossil remains were left to find after digging.
I pondered over this question quite for some time. The only reason I could come up was there might not be any fringe elements in those days. Now, in what way these fringe elements were deemed to be necessary to prevent the decimation of such a great civilisation?
It is established fact that continuous exposure to certain situations/conditions make the system immune, as part of evolution. As we have a sort of almost regular frequency for these misadventures by these fringe elements, our system is slowly becoming immune to them.
Consider two societies. One in Pakistan and the other in India. When there is an atrocity committed against minority, none in the majority had raised the voice for nearly five decades. Slowly, when no minorities were left to subjugate, the evil forces have turned their attention to the majority that was a passive one and failed to find a voice of its own to oppose the intolerant activities.
On the other hand, Indian society had fringe elements in both majority and minority sections of society. And the Government’s appeasing politics for five decades have had one unexpected effect. It had consolidated the majority, but the consolidation was a conscious one evolved over a period of time. As the Indian society was observing the Pakistan for six decades of regression, one instinct that crept into the thinking of the consolidating majority was “We are not like Pakis. We are better”.
And this psyche was the predominant player in the reactions to any actions by the fringe elements that pretend to represent the majority. The reaction from the otherwise silent majority against the actions of these fringe elements is something that could never be expected in a retrograde society that Pakistan had.
Yes, certainly there was negative publicity because of these fringe elements and physical/emotional/financial damage to few individual persons. I may be sounding cold and harsh for writing this line, but in the greater interest of the society, this damage is considered collateral. Here, it is the same logic that is applicable to the lost lives of Military and Police in the line of duty. All the victims of the intolerance are in a way martyrs as they laid their lives to strengthen – not the democracy but the “Open Minded” thinking in larger section of people. There may be some voices that support these fringe elements, but the aversion generated by the feeling that “actions of these fringe elements are slowly converting India into Pakistan” is more than sufficient to prevent India from really turning into Pakistan.
Had there been few fringe organisations in ancient times, probably the Indus Valley civilisation might have evolved and survived.
It is from the venom, the anti-venom is made.
