Saradha scam: Madan Mitra surrenders before Alipore Court

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former West Bengal minister Madan Mitra, who is an accused in the Saradha Chit-fund scam, surrendered before the Alipore Sessions Court today.

I am a law abiding citizen," he told reporters outside the court premises.
The Calcutta High Court had earlier today rejected Mitra's bail petition.
Mitra, who had yesterday resigned from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's Cabinet, was asked to immediately surrender before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate.
The High Court had on November 5 ordered Mitra to be kept under house arrest till November 17. The TMC leader had got a bail in this case by an Alipur court on October 31.
The High Court had also questioned the bail granted to Mitra by a lower court as the same had been refused to the TMC leader earlier in August.
The CBI had arrested Mitra in connection with the scam in December last year.
