Entrepreneurs will be able to operate buses on various routes, subject to certain efficiency and safety norms", Jaitley said tabling the budget. He said not only entrepreneurs will be able to ply buses but permit raj prevalent in the sector would be demolished. In effect, this will dismantle the state-owned road transport corporations in various states.

It seems to be chocolate coating in the name of providing better services to the people. The All India Road Transport Workers Federation Strongly opposes the move and demands the government to forthwith withdraw it. The federation appealed to all the road transport workers federations to come forward to defeat the move and to protect the STUs.

The Finance Minister’s proposal to provide calibrated marketing freedom for the gas producing companies will escalate the prices of gas and thus affecting the financial health of RTCs and eventually burden the common people. In a nutshell, the move will hit the state-owned passenger transport undertakings. Reacting to the move, AIRTWF general secretary K K Divakaran called upon the government to desist from the move.
