Fire destroys railway rest van at Hazaribagh Road

Fire engulfed a rest van meant for railways employees working on rail tracks after a stove went off during cooking in the van that was stationed at the down loop of Hazaribagh Road railway station in Jharkhand on Saturday.

Although no casualty has been reported thus far, the van (VPR 57) was completely destroyed, inflicting a loss to the tunes of several crores of rupees to the railways.

Following information, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, station staff on duty and locals rushed to put out the fire, but had to face with difficulties as taps were running dry.

By the time the water supply was restored, the van gutted. However, railway employees detached the bogies that were attached to the van, preventing further loss of property.

Station Master C.M. Pandey said, "Around 5.55 a.m, I was informed about the fire. I rushed to the station and informed all the departments concerned about IT. And then, bogies attached to the van were detached. After a lot of effort, the fire was put out."
