Guwahati: A day before of Independence Day, suspected militants had triggered an explosion in Oil and Tea rich Upper Assam’s Sivsagar district targeting to the security troop on Sunday evening.

There are no reports of any casualties. The explosion took place at Jalah area near Sonari in the Upper Assam district. “A powerful IED exploded the area just few minutes after an army petrol team passed the area,” a police official said.

Top police and army officials had rushed to the area and launched operation against the militants. On the other hand, an IED weighing 4 kgs recovered from in front of Forest Training School at Makum area in Tinsukia district.

Later army bomb squad team had defused the IED. On August 13, security forces had recovered three live grenades and explosives from Rani area outskirts of Guwahati.

Meanwhile Assam DGP Mukesh Sahai said that, adequate security has been arranged across the state ahead of I-Day celebration. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will host the national flag at Khanapara field, where I-Day celebration has arranged centrally by the state government.
