Bollywood is not on the cards for Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, who is presently on a mission to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene.
Mumbai (Maharashtra) : Bollywood is not on the cards for Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, who is presently on a mission to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene.
The beauty talked more about her campaign at a press conference here today.
Speaking about her campaign, Chhillar said, "When I started this project- Menstrual hygiene in India, I realised that there is less awareness as far as menstrual hygiene and availability of sanitary napkins is concerned. Then I also realised that we need to make people aware about it."
A medical student, Chhillar, thought of the idea after spending time at the obstetrics and gynaecology departments of a hospital, and saw a large number of women suffering due to lack of hygienic products during menstruation.
This led her to choose menstrual awareness and hygiene as her "Beauty with a Purpose" project.
"This isn't only about physical beauty, but how you utilise that beauty to do something good," Chhillar said in reference to her Miss World crown, and added that Bollywood was not her focus at the moment.
"I am really happy that we will be spreading awareness about menstrual hygiene and I'll be joined by other Miss World sisters. That is what I am excited about. Bollywood is something which is not on my mind right now," she said.
Nevertheless, the beauty did spare some thoughts on Bollywood.
"All the actors are very beautiful and talented, but I would like to work with Aamir Khan. I think he has really challenging roles to give and his movies give a message, and connect with society. My personal favorite actress is Priyanka Chopra," she said.
Chhillar, who is from Haryana, said she is proud to have her roots there.
"I am very grateful to the Government of Haryana for all the privileges they are offering to me, and one of them is that of a position that I can take at a government office. I would really like to contribute to the 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' Aandolan," she said.
Chhillar's win at the beauty pageant comes 17 years after Priyanka Chopra won the crown in 2000.
She was crowned the new queen by Miss World 2016 winner Puerto Rico's Stephanie Del Valle at a glittering event held at Sanya City Arena in China on November 18.
Besides Chhillar, the first runner-up was Stephanie Hill from England, while Andrea Meza, hailing from Mexico was announced the second runner-up.
