Nellore: Tension prevailed here on Wednesday when a scuffle ensued between the police and agitators during the bandh. It may be recalled that the Samaikyandhra Joint Action Committee gave a call for bandh with the sudden demise of Batta Shanker Yadav while addressing a meeting on Tuesday.
Supporters of united State pelted stones at buses enraged over highhandedness of the police. Educational institutions and business establishments remained closed, while the agitators staged a dharna in front of More and Reliance Super Markets in protest against they not observing the bandh. Later, the super markets closed their shutters to express their solidarity with the agitators.
The supporters of Samaikyandhra stir organised road blockades across the district. The Samaikyandhra stir entered 43rd day on Wednesday. The district was resonating with dharnas, rasta rokos and relay fasts. Department of Commercial Tax and All India Federation Associations paid rich tributes to Batta Shanker Yadav. “We are ready for sacrifices if the UPA government did not rollback the decision on bifurcation,” they warned.
Vikram Simhapuri University Employees and Students Joint Action Committee convened a meeting here on Wednesday and discussed about the programmes to be conducted from September 12, according to VSU JAC convenor Dr K Venugopal Reddy and general secretary Dr G Sujay Kumar.
Grief stricken Gollapalem, the native village of Sankar Yadav, who died of heart attack on Tuesday while participating in the relay hunger strike, bid adieu to their leader on Wednesday. Sankar Yadav was a teacher who had participated in the relay hunger strike at Naidupet.
