Indian Navy and coast guard did a marvelous job by successfully foiling terror attempt by Pak-sponsored extremists. After every terror attack, we hear about an intelligence failure. But, now, this anti-terror operation was successful with great precision due to actionable intelligence and consummate operation. There was perfect coordination between intelligence agencies giving specific information, Coast Guard tracking the suspected vessel for long time, Navy’s patrolling ships intercepting the suspected boat.
In fact, a lot has changed after the 26/11 terror attacks on Mumbai. The multi-agency centre was created to collate, analyse and disseminate actionable intelligence. India has over 7500 km of coastal line. It cannot be completely sealed. The terrorist and their mentors across the border were exploiting this natural vulnerability. In the post Mumbai attack, India has beefed up the coastal security.
The number of coastal police stations was increased. Coastal patrolling intensified. The registration of boats and vessels was made mandatory. The present success in anti-terror operation seems to be indicating that the measures taken by the Centre started yielding dividends. The surveillance on the coast was stepped up not just with satellite technology but even with all other measures at the disposal of our security establishment.
Now, Pakistan may come up with cock and bull stories. But, the modus operandi and the way the boat responded after it was intercepted clearly reveals that it was intended for a terror operation on Indian soil. The plan was similar to the one carried out by Dawood Ibrahim men who carried out heinous terror attacks on Mumbai in 1993. The fact that the men on this so-called fishing vessel decided to blew up rather than caught reveals that it was certainly a suicide mission by Pak-sponsored terrorists. The nation salutes our security agencies especially our Navy and Coast Guard for their astounding anti-terror success.
The suspected fishing boat was carrying wireless equipment similar to that held by Pakistani army establishment, according to Indian defence sources. The boat tried to go back to Pakistan when intercepted. The conversation between the crew on the blown up boat and the masters across the boarders also indicate that it was a clear act of cross-border terrorism. Pakistani state and non-state actors have always been indulging in export of terror to India. This foiled attempt once again proves the complicity of our hostile neighbour.
India should celebrate this success. But, it should not make us complacent. It also reveals that our coast is still porous. Terrorist can still sneak in if a concerted attempt is made or our security agencies are not highly competent which cannot be expected always. This success should increase our resolve to further strengthen our anti-terror apparatus.
